How We Started

The FPA apheresis service, founded in 2002, was contracted to become part of the NMDP network in 2004. Soon, it became well-known for service. By 2005, the apheresis service was the busiest NMDP HPC apheresis collection site.

The service has collected well over 2,300 products for NMDP. During that time, it had only nine line placements, maintaining the lowest line placement rate in the network.

In 2010, the apheresis service was acquired by the private group Apheresis Associates of Northern Virginia, LLC. Since that time, the service has continued to be one of the world’s top collection sites and win awards from NMDP. This includes the Donor Management Innovation Award in 2011. In 2012, we added the Gift of Life Registry.

We are accredited for Adult Peripheral Blood Cellular Therapy Product Collection and began biotherapy collections (apheresis) in 2016. In 2017, we added DKMS registry. In 2018, we began CAR-T collections.

AANOVA meets continual key performance metrics. We were a participant at the NMDP Quality System Audit Program. Donors have the best possible experience at AANV. Average annual collections are 280 HPC, MNC, and apheresis.
